CUPERTINO STREET TREE TAGS
revised 4/9/2013

There is no mention of tree tags in the Tree Ordinance at www.cupertino.org/treeordinance
The only reference to these tags is listed below under “Cupertino City Council Review”.
Cupertino City Council Review
- March 6, 2012: First Reading of Tree Ordinance - Staff Report under “Community Education” it mentions “City asset tag identification of all street trees”
- A budget line item
Important Information for Residents about the Tree Tags
- The City is tagging all trees in the public right-of-way and calling them “Street Trees”.
- The installation of tree tags is planned in phases, over a period of 4 years (2012-2016). Refer to the Reforestation Program Map (see contacts below) to see when your area will be hit. After your area is tagged, it will be reforested.
- The tagging of city street trees has been very inconsistent. Some trees get tagged while others do not.
- If a tree is not tagged, it does not mean it is not a city street tree. You must check their online database at http://www.cupertino.org/treeordinance and enter your address. Smaller trees, palm trees, redwood trees seem to be the ones usually missing tags but that is not consistent either!
- Even if your tree was tagged, people have been removing tags in protest. So, you may not have seen the tag before someone removed it.
- If they have tagged a tree on private property, contact them! See phone number below.
